At present, mankind is the dominant species on earth. Can we ever lose this position while being not extinct and how would that look like?

  1. Well, there could be a bacteria that starts killing people off in great  numbers, endangering humanity. I think then, those bacteria could arguably be considered the dominant species on earth.

  2. It doesn't seem likely unless we allow it and lose technology.  Some species of vicious ant could dominate much of the world and be impossible to cure.  I have seen it in Georgia about 20 years ago.  Fire ants were the dominant animal in many places.

  3. Right now there wouldn't be a species that could become dominant if human numbers were reduced in huge numbers.    By this I mean a species that currently lives on Planet Earth.

  4. The only way we would lose domination is through self destruction. Cockroaches would survive our destruction and become the dominate species on the planet.

  5. We MUST surrender our 'domination' or else we will become extinct, not because of one other species, but of the whole  of nature.

  6. I hear those dolphins plotting!  Octopus too, if they could live long enough.

The first step toward dominating the rest of nature is alienating onself from it.  Most of the other species on the planet seem a looooong way off from developing the sort of consciousness that would lead it to begin to attempt to manipulate nature in anything more than a very basic way

  7. Not likely. Because we started out first before all present day species. And our technology and science is a lot more advanced than the still emerging species.

  8. yes of course!what species?why one of the species they're CREATING right now!
