  1. If the jar was not open , no problem

sorry to say but mayonnaise is made with eggs. This is not a good thing to eaten when sitting at room temperature for more than 1 hour.

On the good side these are made in factories with strict health regulations. They also use pasteurized egg products which reduce the risk of food poisoning.

  2. A misconception.

    Mayo can be left out.

Mayo is a high acidic food.

Its what you mix with the mayo that goes bad and contaminates it.

I have a jar in front of me for 2 weeks and it's perfectly fine.

Even the Board of Health will tell you that.

    So an example?

    Tuna salad.

You mix tuna with mayo, the tuna starts going bad in 3 days and contaminates the mayo( not the other way around like people think).

Here, this is from Wiki( also many other sites will also tell you the same thing( we are talking about commercially made mayo such as Hellmanns).

Commercial mayonnaise, due to the addition of acids like vinegar or lemon juice, has a pH between 3.8 and 4.6, making it an acidic food. There is a misconception that foods like potato salad can make a person sick if left out in the sun, due to the mayonnaise spoiling. This is false; the pH of mayonnaise prevents harmful bacteria from growing in it. Left out of refrigeration, mayonnaise will develop an unappetizing taste and smell, due to other types of bacteria and molds that can spoil it; but will not make one sick. [7]

See what I mean? And for it to get a bad taste would take weeks out of the fridge( and it's still safe).

  3. It wont make u sick...

  4. first of all, how old is your sister to be making you a sandwich with mayo that has been out for a week??? was the mayo brand new?? if it was brand new and she just now opened the seal, then you wont get sick....but if it was already opened a while back and since then its been sitting out, im not sure what to tell you....sorry!! hope you dont get sick though!! either way i doubt you ate enough to make you sick...

  5. Food poisoning tends to occur at picnics, school cafeterias, and large social functions. These are situations where food may be left unrefrigerated too long or food preparation techniques are not clean. Food poisoning often occurs from eating undercooked meats, dairy products, or food containing mayonaise (like coleslaw or potato salad) that have sat out too long.

  6. It won't get you food poisoning, but it may give you food poisoning. It is one of the things that if left out of the fridge too long can and does cause food poisoning. But there are some people who for some reason aren't affected as bad as others. Maybe you'll be one of the lucky few.
