Question:

Can messages be moderated only until a member's first approved post?

When I first started using the "moderate new members" flag, I thought it meant that when a new member joined, their first posting would come to me for approval before going out to the group, but once I approved it they would be unmoderated. That is the way I would like for it to work--all I need to know is that the person is not a spammer and I can tell that from the first post. The way it seems to work now is that I actually have to log on and change the individual's settings for each new member. Since I usually approve messages by replying in my email, this is considerable extra work. It is less work to log on to ban spammers, which I have to do every few months.

  1. The new member's stay moderated until you change their posting status.  That setting does not automatically change to unmoderated after the new member's first approved post.

  2. read complete link, but here's a portion- it works this way since if after the first post it was automatic, spammers would post a decent 1st post and after that, whammo! spam.

"This change must be made individually and explicitly for each member. There’s no set time period for membership at which point a member will automatically stop being treated as a "new" member. They’re "new" in this context until you explicitly change their setting."

Can I moderate just the new members who join my group? How?
