Can milk curdle if it is cold warm and then cold again?

I warm my sons milk at night and last night it got to hot so i put ice in it and that night he got sick.I was thinking it could have been from the cold then warm then cold again milk. Please help.......

  1. That would not make him sick. Perhaps the milk was already bad.


  2. That's almost the same thing they do when they pasteurize milk.

    I wouldn't think that cooling it down quickly( which is actually better) would cause him to get sick.

    Quick cooling prevents bacterial growth.

    Slow cooling is what causes bacterial growth.

    Also curdled milk will not necessarily get you sick either.

    For instance if you put a little lemon juice in milk, it will curdle but it will now be Ricotta cheese( and that's how it's made).

    Milk that curdled from being old can get you sick but usually nothing serious.

    Hard to make a call but if he's sick after 24 hours, I would get him checked, in that case I highly doubt it's the milk.

    If it was caused by the milk, he'll be fine in a few hours.

    Give him water or ginger ale to settle his stomach( I'm presuming he has an upset stomach, nausea or diarrhea).

  6. well the whole issure is that when its cold its less likely to spilt into fat and wey, (milk itself is a mix and seperates with age), the act of it going through such a drastic temperature change from cold to hot to cold probably cooked the fat in the milk and then the ice solidified it... if nothing else heatting it could have allowed some of the bacteria that live in or got in when you were pouring it, to grow to levels that made your child sick. warming then cooling gives twice the time for it to grow... and the ice still made it clump...
