  1. hand wash them with woolite

  2. I am native american.  I wear moccasins all the time....  I also wash them in the washer all the time.

You didn't specify what kind of leather they are made of or if you have  the store bought kind or what.  So I'll assume you have the kind I have, soft soled, buckskin or split leather.

Use cold water, scrub them up with a brush for hard to remove stains, like the mustard that fell out of your hot dog at the camp site.....

When you take them out of the washer,  you will need to "work" them - meaning scrunch them up and flex them a lot to keep them from getting stiff.  That's true of most leathers.  You have to repeat this all the time they are drying.  You can also take them and see saw them over a tree branch or a rope as they get dryer too.  That's especially helpful for the hard to reach places like over the top of the foot and the heel.  But you can't do this if you have beadwork on them.

Suede does not wash - I use a gum eraser on suede things.

But moccasins are usually split cowhide or buckskin.  Either way, you have to work that drying leather or it will be stiff and dry and very uncomfortable to wear.

  3. If they are wool inside and suede on outside then go ahead but use a good quality wool detergent to do so.

If you are hesitant about putting in the machine scrub them by hand but spin the excess water from them and place in the fresh air to dry - perhaps it would not hurt to stuff something inside as they dry to help them keep the right shape and size

I have washed what I call  my ugg boots this way many times

  4. Ive always been tolt that you cant wash suede with water but ive been washing my welding leathers for years in the washing machine. Believe it or not with woolite!!

  5. If they are leather, they can't be washed in a washing machine.
