Yes mollies can live without salt and most you buy in the petstore are acclimated to fresh water (in fact it could be the only thing they know). However, a mollies natural environment is brackish water...which would be 1/4 cup marine salt to every gallon. Although you mollies would be healthiest and happiest in these water conditions it really limits your choice of fish. So if you do go freshwater with them use 1 Tablespoon freshwater aquarium salt to every 5 gallons. This amount will not only make your mollies happy but is actually recommended for all freshwater species because it helps with their respiratory systems.

But yes mollies can live without salt and live happy and healthy lives.

Yes. I have two large molly tanks and i don't put any salt in there tank.

Yes they can. But if you want to breed your mollies then you should put salt in. The water condition and food is very important in the breeding process.

yes they can. ive got a community tank with mollies and a few other fish together and they dont need salt. If u check the pet stores they mix mollies with other fish and dont usually add salt to the tank.

The can live without salt however they tend to do much better with salt.  Mollies are actually a brackish water fish (found naturally in intercostal waterways)  So they are addapted to live in anything from totally fresh water to seawater becuase of the changing environment they live in.  However for them to truely thrive they do best in a brackish (halfway between fresh and sea water) water system
