Can moms of young children be in politics?

Men with young children are in top political positions ALL the time. But WOMEN are told to WAIT until their children are grown before they're allowed to run for top office. I have 3 young children and am a successful Yale-educated attorney. I spend plenty of quality time with my children and love them. So what do YOU think? (And yes, this has EVERYTHING to do with Sarah Palin being criticized for running for VP just because she has small children.)

  1. idk wat u think

  2. This comes down to nothing more than good old fashion double standards.  I see nothing wrong with Sarah Palin being selected as McCain's VP.  There are several studies out that shows the opposite s*x parent is crucial in a child's life.  So, if she should wait, then Obama should wait also.

  3. Sarah Palin is the Governor of Alaska. She has had a great political career and has 5 children. From what I heard her youngest has Downs Syndrome. If she can do it any woman can. Especially someone like you. Criticism is a part of politics. Especially when a woman is involved. It doesn't matter what others think. It matters what kind of politician you are and how successful you are at following through with promises. So go for it. Make a difference. Good Luck!

  4. Absolutely they can!  Here in Canada there is one woman who comes to mind more than others.  Sheila Copps started relatively small, she was elected provincially and eventually federally.  She was the topic of many conversations involving the male politicians.  Most of whom really did not think belonged there.  She was once told, during a heated debate to "Just quiet down, baby".  She was also told, at a fundraising dinner by the same male politician that she reminded him of the song lyrics, "Pass the tequila, Sheila, lay down and love me again!"  Another politician called her a s**t and a ***** (a female dog, because this will likely get censored.)

She became the first Member of Parliament to give birth during term.

She was the first woman to take her child to work with her and workplace daycares started because of her.  (this was during the late 80's, early 90's)

She was eventually chosen to be Prime Minister Jean Chretien's Deputy Prime Minister and also Minister of the Environment.  So, if she could do it 20 years ago, I see no reason why women/mothers today can't do it.  Hasn't the battle of the sexes progressed a little since then?  I sure hope so!

  5. I can't see how it is different from any other demanding job and women do them all the time.

I'd say go for it. You have quality time with you children so they aren't missing out. Why not?
