I know it may sound like a dumb question, but i heard somewhere that hamsters can't live together because they kill each other. Is this true?

  1. Some people think you can put hamsters together, but even putting dwarf hamsters together isn't a good idea.

I would suggest getting gerbils, being roughly the same size and lifespan of a hamster, but are more sociable.

  2. me and my brother each had one before, and i don't know how long it was, but his gave mine a heartattache. i think. but his killed mine. I'm not so sure if its a good idea.

  3. it depends on the breed. the only hamsters that can be together are russian dwarfs. but even russian dwarfs cant be together unless they are from the same litter. at pet stores they keep them together sometimes cause they wont fight unless they are sexually mature and most pet store hamsters are pretty young. the reason why hamsters fight and kill is cause they are very cage tutorial and that is why most hamsters only bite when you are taking them out of there cage.so if you want more then one hamster, get a pregnant russian dwarf and sell a couple of the babies and keep the others. but if you do get a russian dwarf make sure that you do LOTS of research about the breed before you buy some because these hamster are almost blind so when someone grabs them or enters their cage they may attack it thinking it is a predator, so this makes them short tempered and more likely to bite. so if you want to play with your lil russian open up the cage and make a noise to get your hamsters attention and then let your pet come to you if it wants to be held. but if you get a russian and keep it in a tank, then you would need to make/buy a ramp for them to climb up on and then crawl into your hand. or you could use heavy gloves to take them out so then they will get used to you in their home and that may cure any bitting. good luck! hope i helped.....

  4. It depends on the type of hamster if you have a syrian hamster (http://www.unclemikespetworld.ie/images/...

then it wouldn't be a very good idea to put them together ( They would kill each other, they are very territorial) But on the other hand if you have a dwarve hamster (http://artfiles.art.com/images/-/Wegner/...

then it is a good idea to get another dwarve to keep your first one happy, just make sure they are the same s*x ( to do so google "dwarf hamster sexing") Hope I helped!!!

  5. A female will always kill another female and any male.  Two males can live together ONLY if they are from the same litter and have always been together.  They are not lonely and don't need company.  If you want 2 get gerbils instead.
