Can mosquitos kill you. if they can, which ones!?

i saw it fly under my bed and it was huge and evil looking. i am scared to go to bed.

In the USA you cannot die from from malaria due to being bitten by a mosquito. The fewer than 6 deaths per year are of people who get it while in another country and come here (or return) with it.

West Nile Disease:  In 2007 three people died in USA so I, really, don't think you have anything to worry about other than a red itchy bump from being bitten (unless you managed to kill the mosquito tonight).

Mosquitoes can't kill you directly, but the diseases they carry can.

More than a million people die from mosquito-borne malaria every year, mostly in sub-Saharan Africa.  It is also present in Asia, South and Central America.  Malaria is carried by the Anopheles mosquito, and was once a major barrier to settlement in the Ohio river valley.  Cooler temperatures in the last few centuries drove those mosquitoes south, but there is evidence that they are moving northwards again as climates change.

In addition to malaria, mosquitoes can also carry yellow fever (mostly South America, but it comes as far north as Texas and Florida), dengue (also known as bone-break fever), and hundreds of different varieties of viral encephalitis (of which West Nile is one, but others including Eastern equine encephalitis and St. Louis encephalitis are native to North America).

In 2007 in the United States, there were 124 fatalities attributed to West Nile, but only 3 to date this year, although 342 cases have been reported.

However, it's unlikely that the fly under your bed was a mosquito.  It was probably more likely a crane fly - which look like gigantic mosquitoes, but are actually harmless.
