I found a moth with half of one of it's wings chewed off by my cat and I want to know if it will be able to survive outside.

  1. Lepidoptera can fly with very torn and damaged wings.

Damage to their wings reduces their life expectancy by reducing their ability to deter predators with warning patterns.

  2. Moths and Butterflies-Lepidoptera only get one set of wings. Some Moths-more than others are susceptible to wing damage. The Luna Moth comes to mind. It is a beautiful-green awkward moth, which makes it easy prey for many animals and birds.

  3. Moths sometimes amaze me with their ability to live despite wing damage.  The ability to survive is based on their ability to fly.  Let it go, if it flies away it can survive.

  4. Throw it outside and see what happens. Let nature take course. You could also feed it to a chicken because chickens eat moths.
