I dont see why they couldnt. Many freshwater turtles are opportunistic omnivores, so more than likely neither of the two are depending completely on fish as the main source of diet anyway.  Ever RESs tend to be more opportunistic than not, if it's around, close and easy to catch-they are probably going to go for that rather than chase down a particular fish.

Possibly not as well but they won't starve. They wait for the fish to come to them.
