Can routers be used, or do I need access points, to add wireless to an existing network? I want to have multiple wireless transmitters, are APs or routers better?

  1. An access point will do.  If you need a separate network, then you need a router.  A router is a device to "route" data packets between different networks.

    Hope this helps.

  2. The best way to set up a multiple router network is to have your main one (that plugs into your incoming internet connection) be the actual ROUTER, then use the rest as "smart switches" by disabling DHCP servers on them.  You will also need to assign them different IP addresses.  Mine are 192.168.1.1 (wired router) and 192.168.1.250 (router that broadcasts wifi).
