I have a 10 lb dumbell and a resistance band for my workout. I also bike for 30 mins every other day for about 5-6 kms. If i work out with the band and the dumbell..lets say 50 bicep curls, and then after that 40-50 pushups, and 30=40 situps, will all this stop my height?....my brother always gives me examples of people who have not grown since they started working out...and i am 13 years old and i am pretty short..5'3...does working out stunt your height? PLEASE HELP

  1. Yes working out can stunt your growth. You aren't using heavy weights and body building though, you are just being active. Don't over do it. You don't need to do that everyday. It isn't even beneficial to do this everyday. Your muscles repair and grow as you rest, so let them. Don't get into anything serious until you are least 18.

  2. no not unless you damage your growth plates.... which im sure you haven't.

  3. I'll provide you with the accurate answer.

You will not stunt your growth unless you do and over excessive amount of weight in a Compact exercise such as a squat. and using anabolic supplements such as prohormones/steroids. doing pushups is a compact exercise but will not stunt your growth neither will using a resistance band nothing to worry about

  4. i heard only if your below 16.

  5. Physical exercise is good for you and never let anyone tell you any different.  It will never stunt your growth but it is also unlikely to make you taller.  Your height is determined almost exclusively by your genetics (parents).  If you know how tall you were when you were about two years old, double that and that will be pretty close to your normal adult height.  All that aside, lifting weights and riding a bike that much will likely make you much more muscular and "wider" than your Dad so keep it up (and the girls will also take notice!)
