  1. i read somewhere that over 60% of india is vegetarian.

  2. It is not allowed to be vegetarian if you consider that eating meat is immoral.

To believe that Allah has something halal whcih is morally not correct is like believing and rejecting prophethood.

    Read this

6:119 Why should ye not eat of (meats) on which Allah's name hath been pronounced, when He hath explained to you in detail what is forbidden to you - except under compulsion of necessity? But many do mislead (men) by their appetites unchecked by knowledge. Thy Lord knoweth best those who transgress.

6:138 And they say that such and such cattle and crops are taboo, and none should eat of them except those whom - so they say - We wish; further, there are cattle forbidden to yoke or burden, and cattle on which, (at slaughter), the name of Allah is not pronounced; - inventions against Allah's name: soon will He requite them for their inventions.

    and these verse.

6:143 (Take) eight (head of cattle) in (four) pairs: of sheep a pair, and of goats a pair; say, hath He forbidden the two males, or the two females, or (the young) which the wombs of the two females enclose? Tell me with knowledge if ye are truthful:

6:144 Of camels a pair, and oxen a pair; say, hath He forbidden the two males, or the two females, or (the young) which the wombs of the two females enclose? - Were ye present when Allah ordered you such a thing? But who doth more wrong than one who invents a lie against Allah, to lead astray men without knowledge? For Allah guideth not people who do wrong.

    and read this also..

7:32 Say: Who hath forbidden the beautiful (gifts) of Allah, which He hath produced for His servants, and the things, clean and pure, (which He hath provided) for sustenance? Say: They are, in the life of this world, for those who believe, (and) purely for them on the Day of Judgment. Thus do We explain the signs in detail for those who understand.

Finally, if something is considered immoral you are saying that it is Haram. To declare that eating hala food is immoral is like rejecting message of Allah. Quran is too harsh on those who declare Halal as haram or immoral. Actually this trend has become prevelent because of western ideology which place man and animal at same degree.

Allah created animals and other things in this world for humans.
