Question:

Can my 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer tow a U-haul trailer?

I am looking into renting a small (4x8) trailer from U-haul. They've told me that it is possible to hook it up to my Mitsubishi Lancer. I only have boxes to load and a small kitchen table. No other furniture. I think it should be okay - I am moving from CA to CO and plan to take the southern route so I won't have to go over Donner pass. Any feedback or suggestions? My boyfriend will also be with me, I know to go slow and leave lots of space between other cars. Thanks.

  1. I wouldnt do it I havent seen anther lancer with one and my bro drives the same car it may be a 03 not sure

  2. The towing capacity of the Lancer is about 1000 lbs., but the manual discourages towing anything with it. If you have to, it should be okay. You can use a Class 1 tow hitch which has a 2,000 lb. tow capacity. You can get them installed at U-Haul. Just avoid steep climbs while towing, so avoiding Donner Pass is an excellent idea. You don't want to strain your engine. Good Luck with the move!!!
