  1. Do you have a tow package?  What is its rating?  My inclination is that it won't be able to deal with three horses.  I have had Ford F-150s struggle with one large horse.

  2. nope...

  3. Escalade Towing Capacity = 7,700 lbs

    Avarage Horse Weight = 900 - 1500 lbs.

    Horse Trailer Weight = 1500 - 2000 lbs

    Max (1500 X 3) + 2000 = 6,500 lbs

    You are good to go.

  4. For what you paid for it ,, it should ?

I think it has at a half ton or maybe a 3/4 ton  load

so I think you will be fine as long as you do not have a long hard trip  hills etc

make sure you have a tranny cooler !

I think you should be fine

  5. i would not think so...not for any distance...

  6. I just looked at specs for the 2007 Escalade and the towing capacity appears to be 7700 pounds so I think it will be a capable tow vehicle for what you are asking but it will certainly be, if that 7700 pounds I saw is correct, at or near the Escalade's maximum tow capacity. Assuming your horses weigh about 1200 pounds each and a 3-horse trailer weighs about 4000 pounds empty, you can see how close you will be to the Escalade's 7700 pound towing capacity and without much margin for equipment. If you haven't already bought the trailer, I suggest you shop around for a light weight 3-horse trailer closer to 3000 pounds empty weight than 4000 pounds. Also choose a maximum capacity hitch for your Escalade. That would be a class 4 hitch with a rating up to 10,000 pounds gross trailer weight and 1,000 to 1,200 pounds tongue weight. I expect a well balanced dual axle 3-horse trailer will be safely within the maximum tongue weight but check your trailer specs and remember that hard braking increases tongue weight. You should also consider installing airbag load-levelers to prevent rear sag and provide better sway stability and consider a heavy duty transmission cooler to prevent transmission overheating on long hauls and steep grades. And I suppose your Escalade also has the automatic transmission with overdrive. Do not tow in overdrive. But then the maximum speed limit for cars towing trailers in most states is 55 mph and so you won't need overdrive.

Edit: I just noticed the additional details you posted and that your Escalade is the ESV model. Looking at specs again I see that the 2007 Escalade ESV rated towing capacity is 7800 pounds, which is 100 pounds more  than the 7700 pounds towing capacity of a regular Escalade. That gives you a bit more margin for equipment but not much. As stated above, I do think it is a capable tow vehicle for what you are asking. Just remember that remaining within the maximum rated tow weight limits for your vehicle is not just a good idea, it is a serious matter of safety, adequate tow vehicle braking force and control stability being of supreme importance and then power for the task, so know the empty weight of your trailer, the weight of your horses, the weight of the equipment loaded, and do the math. And don't trust the horse weight to estimates using a weight tape. Weigh them. If you don't have easy access to a scale, call around and ask local livestock supply stores and tack & feed shops if they know of someone who has a cattle scale trailer for hire. And another very good way to weigh your horses which is extremely accurate and most economical is to call nearby truck stops and ask if they have certified truck scales. Most large truck stops do and they are extremely accurate and very affordable. But it is of paramount importance that you know your trailer empty weight before you load a horse and head off to the truck stop scale because after weighing the loaded trailer you will need to subtract the trailer empty weight from the scaled weight to get the weight of your horse. And be sure to tell the scalemaster that you only want to scale the trailer, not the tow vehicle, and he/she will tell you on which platform to position your trailer axles. Most truck stops only charge a scale fee of between $7.00 and $8.00, the Certified CAT Scale at the truck stop I use to weigh charges $7.50, and so that is a most affordable way to weigh each horse individually. But you can cut cost if you choose by weighing two horses on the first trip to the scale and then the third horse on a second trip to the scale, or all three horses in one trip if you are confident that you will not exceed the rated tow capacity of your Escalade. And just one last suggestion. Rather than trust the empty weight listed on the trailer data plate, weigh the trailer empty so you will know the precise weight. You might be surprised to discover that the data plate is not precise, or that it is not correct because the trailer may have been modified by a previous owner.

  7. Nope.

  8. Even tho it's a big strong looking vehicle, they aren't really built to tow that much weight. You would be using a bumper pull which puts more strain on the engine and frame than a goose neck. Your talking an easy 6000 pounds when loaded. Trade it in for a Ford 350.Your average 3 horse trailer  weighs  3-4000 pounds.
