He is 9 & at 1yr. he was developmental delayed, in special ed, gets occupational therapy 1x a week at school, is on Adderal, Risperdol and Clonidine? Has ADHD, been tested by neurologists, school & doctors, has sever impulsivity, and ODD and doesn't know where his space is on earth (forgot the name of that) am a single mom & can't afford the co-pay dr. bills pilling up. He is on his dads insurance but the dad won't help me pay the remaining of the bills. Guess I will have to take him to court even though he is in another state. Had enough w/ the X already not helping me with the copays and even dentist bills. I spent 400.00 in cash taking him to urgent cares since 2003. Dad won't give me a dime. I just got a pretty good job so I think the state is going to cut off my sons health insurance, but they don't call me either. He has to pay his son's needs instead of ridding his motorcycle in the desert! Someone please help. Heard ya have to be really disabled to get SSI.

  1. GO and fill out the forms . It is typical to apply and be denied even more than once . make sure you go to all scheduled visits for SSI , and appeal in the proper time frame if denied . It can take a while but just keep at it .

I can totally relate ! Your 9 yr old sounds alot like my 6 yr old . We were denied 2 times , the second time I appealed it I was contacted just a few days later asking where I wanted his medical card and checks sent to !

Good luck . It is a rough road having a special child . It can be really tiring and trying . Just keep in mind the world for them runs much different than it does for us !

    HUGS !

  2. You can apply for SSI for your child online at:

    http://www.ssa.gov/applyfordisability/ch...

  3. Quite possibly.  Go to the Social Security office and complete the forms.  Take your copies of his most recent IEP and evaluation.  You may also need statements from the doc, but wait and see exactly what you need first.

  4. I looked into SSI and you need to find out what is the maximum monthly income per family.  I believe it must be less then $2200 or $2400  a month to qualify.  But if you call SS directly they will give yo the exact figure.

  5. I am quite sure he can get SSI and/or SOcial Security/DIsability.  Call your local Social Secuirty office and see if they can help you out. I was on SSI when I was younger, and then I was on Social Security Disability, I am not earinig the benifits now; however, I can still fo back on it if I no longer have a job.  Your son may have to be evaluated with some tests, (just basicly general knowledge) and see how well he does.  IT may be very difficult for him to recieve the benifits though, but keep on trying and do no give. up

  6. Social Security is also likely to request paperwork from his baselist sp ed teacher and possibly from school social worker.  I have filled out these forms on several of my students.  Along with his most recent IEP make sure you bring a copy of his Eligibility Recommendation form(s).  Good luck.
