Can my Green Cheek Conure get my cold?

I have a cold and I'm worried that I might pass it on to him. Is this possible?

I have a cat and the vet told me that I cannot pass on my cold to my cat because cats get a different strand of viruses than humans. Does this also apply to birds?

  1. Yes, your conure can get your cold except it would kill him. be careful. I have a sun conure myself named Peanut. Myold bird caught my cold and it killed him. his name was Tweety.

  2. Nope! The human cold cannot be passed to parrots. See this:

  3. No you cannot give him a cold.

  4. Your conure probably can't catch your cold.  Most things you'd call a "cold" won't pass from people to parrots.  However, certain human sinus infections can potentially become respiratory infections in parrots (Cephalosporin cured it nicely in both people and parrots.  You and your bird should take meds over the same week, so you don't reinfect each other).
