I am Australian but right now we both live in London. We met 1 year ago and although we don't live together we spend most nights at my place. Unfortunately I can't break the lease where I live right now and my flatmate doesn't want anyone else to move in. Hence we're thinking about going to Australia. Does anyone know our options of her getting a temporary resident visa whilst in Australia. For instance she could get a 6 month holiday visa and go to Australia and then we could apply together during that period. Does anyone have experience in this or been in a similar situation? If we apply from here as a prerequisite we must be living together for at least a year I think - I would prefer to go back ASAP however I don't want to leave her behind.

  2. My dad want a visa for his mother and let me tell u it is going to be expensive. First thing u do is apply for a vistor visa or passport. Then u get ur self a lawyer (trust me if u try to do ur self it is going to be running around try to figure out to do) and s/he will tell what u need to do and what steps to make next. I am not sure what the rules for Aussie govt but in america it takes a 1 year or more to get a visa. A lawyer gets ur paper work in faster then u doing it ur self. As least for my dad it was. He try to do it himself and he got nowhere for 6 months, he finally given and called a lawyer and he got his mom the visa 5 months.
