I have a 50 inch JVC Plasma that was purchased new in 2005, would any of the set top boxes out there be able to convert the display to full High Def? Or am I better buying a brand new TV?

  1. it cant do that, because your TV's resoloution is limited and both the player and the TV must be HD in order for them to give good results.

  2. If it's an HDTV, it's an HDTV. "Full HD" is a marketing term meant to scare people into buying 1080p sets that they don't really need. Don't worry, your TV is fine, especially since all HDTV broadcasts are 720p and 1080i anyway.

  3. There's nothing WRONG with your TV set....You have HD with an HD cable or satellite box,  and if you rent HD services, you get HD......period.

You want 1080? Is that what you want?  Why fork out big money, when you can wait a couple more years and get something more superior than today's 1080P?

I would....there's nothing wrong with a 50 inch JVC plasma...

  4. Yes , any HD box will receive HD channels , you don't need to buy a new TV.

You will need to purchase a HD Set Top Box to receive the HD signals , and if your TV has a HD pixel rating then you can watch true HD.

If your TV is not HD , the HD box will still pick up the HD channels , your TV may not show the difference between SD and HD quality though.
