  1. No, you are not required to attend the promotion board. Reference AR 600-8-19, CH 5, para 5-11.

The title is "Declination  of Promotion Board Request", so that should hint right there.

  2. If they tell you to go, you have to go. Something or other about obeying orders....

  3. no they can't "MAKE" you...why would you not want to?!

  4. If you are ordered to go, you must go.  It will be entirely up to you how you conduct yourself in front of the boards and how you answer any questions put to you.  (wink)  I had a simolar sutuation in the Air Force and one of the questions asked was, "Why are you here?"  I explained that I was simply following an order and had no desire for the recognition being considered.  I didn't get it.

  5. Yes they can order you to go. However just because you are promotable doesn't mean you promote right away... it took my husband 8 months to earn the points he needed when he moved from E4 - E5.

  6. They are wanting you to go for a reason.  It will look good for you especially if you win the soldier of the month board.  And if it is it a promotion board why wouldn't you want to do...HELLO more money if you make it and get recommended.....
