Can my XM antenna withstand an automatic car wash?

I have an XM radio in my truck. It uses an exterior antenna held in place by a magnet. Will an automatic car wash rip it off my truck, or can it handle the wash?

  1. It Shouldn't do anything to the antenna. I've been through many car washes with my antenna and nothing has happened. Also, There are millions of cars out there with that antenna on the car already and they are still there!

  2. I have always taken mine off before the car wash, so I don't know what would happen if I didn't. It's easy for me, I just reach thru the sunroof. I'm sure a few times wouldn't hurt, but eventually, either the antenna or the leads (wires) will suffer. So, if it's not a huge hassle, I'd take it down.

  3. I have one as well and have taken it through a Touchless wash.

I don't know about taking it through a wash where those pieces of hard cloth rub against it.

  4. My Sirius antenna has been through a gazillion car washes!  You should be fine!!

  5. Touchless is best.  Don't chance it with taking it to a soft cloth.  I had a regular antenna rip off in one of those auto washes.  Right out of the socket.  You can't keep taking the XM antenna off everytime you get a wash either.  It'll eventually become to hard to stay on & you'll be driving around with a flying antenna.
