  1. yes, but i am pretty sure he will need a waiver.  they can only accept so many with a GED.

  2. Yes he can but he needs to score high enough in the ASVAB and for many ratings (jobs) he won't be allowed to do and for some waivers will need to be required. Have him go to http://www.mynavyonline.com for more help if he's serious about joining.

  3. Yes he can, however he will need a Waiver. In order to get that Waiver he will need at least 3 references, 1 of them being from a previous employer. He will need to write a letter explaining Why it is he wants to join the Navy and Why the Navy should except him. He will also need to score a 50 or above on the ASVAB. Anything lower and they will not except him  (35 is passing for High School Grads) . He will also need to not have any prior convictions. I have seen people with Misdemeanors get in with a GED but they scored extremely high on the ASVAB and had perfect records other than the misdemeanor.

The reason behind all of this is because the Navy considers people drop out of High School , quitters and people that are not as educated and intelligent as they should be . They want to the Upper Mental Group Score of 50 or above because they want to make sure the person is smart enough. It also has to deal with them being lazy or not. The Navy does not want lazy people that give up. The thought is that most people that drop out and get a GED are just that.  Of course that is not every case, so that is why they make the standards higher just to make sure.

He must also not have any medical conditions and be in great physical shape.

Those 2 items can be disqualification matters for a person with a High School Diploma, and a person with a GED and those issues will not be considered unless they score a 75 or above on the ASVAB.

Also the Navy Recruiter Term for people with GED's is HP3.

  4. Yes, But he will need 15-17 college credits(Does not matter if it's Distance or in classroom, just be sure it's an accredited college).

If he gets that, he will be considered a High School Grad in the eyes of the Navy. Take it from personal expierance, getting into ANY branch with a GED without college credits is incredibly hard and difficult. The chances are equel to everyone else(In other words if he is qualified he will get in) if he gets the 15-17 college credits.

    Hope this helps,

    Joe
