Can my child still qualify for Peachcare or Medicaid if I currently have insurance on her but can't afford it?

I am currently preggo with my 2nd child, and my husband is out of work now. I pay a total of $480 per month for family health care coverage through my job, but obviously we can't afford it anymore. I dont want to drop my policy until I know she is covered at least, but I am worried we will be automaticly denied if I have insurance available to me. Ive been told that I can't qualify for Pregnancy medicaid because I have insurance available to me. But what about her?

  1. Usually she'd have to be uninsured for at least six months, before welfare insurance would pick her up.

But if your income is low enough, they might be willing to pay part of the premium for her health insurance.

  2. I can tell you that my daughter-in-law tried to get Peachcare for her twins but was told because they were already covered by a policy, they would not be eligible even though she felt they could not afford the coverage any longer.  You need to check with DFACS before you cancel your insurance.
