Can my computer edit AVCHD format?

Question

I really love the quality of the Canon HF100, I want to buy one...but it records in AVCHD format. I recently purchased a hp Laptop...I'll provide the specs...do you think I will be able to edit AVCHD? I'm not looking for blazing editing...just 1-3 times/year. I know most software lists minimum processing speeds of 2.6-3 GHz...but what happens with a 2.0 GHz?

-Model: HP DV9910

-AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-60

and 512+512 L2 Cache (2.0 GHz)

-3072 MB DDR2 SDRAM

-nVidia GeForce 7150M

-Vista
