Question:

Can my cyber school teachers know what sites I'm browsing?

I was looking through the handbook and noticed the rule that (on the computer I was given by them) I'm only allowed to use sites that are related to school. How/would they be able to tell which sites I'm using, or if I've attempted to get on them? I mainly just use an oekaki and DeviantArt...

  1. yea, they CAN see the sites you're going to.... the teacher have a special program that connects to your computer, and knows exactly what site you've been to, and such.

Don't take the risk or you'll get caught!

  2. There isn't much you can't retrieve off the hard drive if you really wanted too. Even things you think you have deleted can still be recovered off the hard drive. It is like a recorder and unless you have Government blocking software yes they can see where you go. Not much is secret these days and expecially if you have logged into their system. The school computer needs to only be used for school stuff. You need to browse you use another computer or go to the library.

  3. They could if say their router kept a log of what sites you went to, so it is very likely that they had the capability to but the effort to actually find out is really not worth it.

Personally, I don't think anybody would want to go through hundreds of text files filled with URL's looking for inappropriate websites. Don't use this as an excuse to do so though!

  4. Yes they can because you are browsing on the schools network and all sites are transmitted back to them....Especially if you log in on the conputer by a given name and password they can trace it right back to you!

  5. If you are using the school's network, yes they can. They likely have a key logger installed into the network, so each time you push a key, it will be sent back to them. They can also record your login names, passwords and usernames, so its best not to go on these sites on the school's networks. Its easier and safer to use your own computer where everything will be kept private and you can use whatever you want.

  6. Since this question is in the homeschooling category, I am not exactly sure of its nature.  Most answers that have been already given seem to be from the focus of a classroom environment.  However, if you are indeed homeschooling, then you probably aren't in a classroom environment at all.  Therefore, some of the answers may not truly apply.

You mentioned that you have been using a computer given to you by the online school (assuming "cyber school" means an online Internet-based curriculum).  If you are using your OWN internet service, then they won't be able to snoop your network browsing UNLESS they specifically installed special software on the computer before giving it to you.  This isn't difficult to do.

It would be generally safe to assume there is some form of monitoring software on the computer.  The software could probably be disabled by someone very familiar with computer systems, but don't risk any loss of grades, or even the computer, by doing anything foolish.

  7. If they have the proper tracking software yes they can!

Employers use it all the time and many people have been fired legally.

  8. I don't know how but they definitely can! My cousin got kicked out of cyber school for it. He was in... something or another Cyber Charter School?? If I were you, I would stop now.
