Question:

Can my dad use his AT&T sim card in my old phone? Please read details...?

We have an AT&T family plan. I no longer wanted to be part of the plan, so I let my portion of the contract run out and then got a new phone, on my own, with Verizon. My old AT&T phone is just sitting in my drawer and no longer has service (since I let it run out when my two years was up). The rest of my family is still on the same old AT&T family plan.

My dad decided he likes my old AT&T phone better than his current one. So my questions are:

1. Can he put his sim card in my old phone to activate it again?

2. If so, will he still have his current number, or will it change to my old number?

3. In either case, is there any chance it will activate my old line? I waited two years to get away from AT&T and now there are only 3 lines on the family plan. We don't want it to re-activate my old number and go back up to 4 lines again.

If you know the answers to my question, please say how you know them. I don't want to just go by guesses and mess things up. Thank you!

  1. the sim card can go in, its will be his number not yours,. me and my boyfriend switch phone... sorry trying to be quick so you can get your answer.

  2. It should work just fine (providing your old phone is not a pre conversion ATT device).  It will in no way cause your old service or your old number to be activated again.  The number is on the SIM card and when your account was deactivated it also deactivated your old SIM card and once deactivated the SIM can never be activated again.  When your Dad places his SIM in the device it will be his number and his information that is being used

  3. Your phone number is on your SIM card. So if you switch with another AT&T Phone, it will work 100% and it will not activate your old line. Its safe. Enjoy! =)

  4. Of course.  It just matters on the sim card.  If you put your old sim card in another AT@T phone then it wouldn't work because you canceled the sim card.  But if you use your old phone and put a new sim in it it will work perfectly.
