Can my dog get sick by smelling paint? (the kind you paint walls with)?

I am repainting my house and have a small chichaua at home all day. I def make sure he is away from the paint to avoid him l*****g it but i am worried about the smell. should I get him out the house or take special precautions?

  1. Yes, dogs need oxygen just as we do.


  2. I have heard a person can get high if they sniff paint, so that probably applies to animals.  If you are paining the inside of the house, have your dog be outside, in an enclosed area, so that he gets plenty of oxygen.  Make sure he has everything to be comfortable outside.  

  3. I don't know what type of paint you are going to use, but if it's something that would be harmful or unpleasant to you to be shut in with all day,  it would be a health issue to your chi as well.   Can he spend the day at the vet's office or with a pet sitter until you've ventilated all the fumes?
