Can my ex husband sell a car that's just in my name?

I'm divorced & the judge ordered that my ex gets the tahoe & the financial responsiblity for it. The tahoe is financed in my name only & still is. So technically if something should happen & it doesn't get paid it"ll reflect on me. My ex has been making payments as he should....BUT...he will be getting deployed overseas next month. A mutual friend of ours told me that my ex has given the car to some guy that's driving it & supposed to be making payments, only he hasn't been...my ex has been having to do it. My ex is in a different state right now in training so he doesn't even have access to the tahoe....this other guy is the only one. This guy is supposed to be buying it, yet he isn't paying...& they haven't even talked to me about it & it's in my name! My ex can't just sell a car that isn't in his name, can he? If something happens to the car, I'm responsible right? It's financed in my name but registered in my ex's name. Isn't that illegal what he's trying to do?

  1. By court order, your ex must pay the bill.  If you end up paying, you can take him back to court.  Just keep your records.

Since the tahoe belongs to him, he can give it to who ever he wants.  That person isn't responsible for paying you, HE IS.  If it gets wrecked, it won't reflect on you.  If the payments don't get made, it will.

Divorced enough to know better.  Shoud have sold it out from under him and split the money.
