Can my fiance get financial aid if her car insurance is in her parents name?

My fiance is trying to get financial aid ahe is off of her parents insurance but the car insurance i believe is still in her parents name. Any suggestions?

  1. Well she has to be 24 married or have a child or they will use her parents income, even if shes not living with them.  Have her go to www.fafsa.ed.gov


  2. First, neither FAFSA nor a university will ask how her car is insured. What is more important is...has she been living on her own? That determines how she fills out her FAFSA. If she has been on her own and has filed her own income taxes, then she will file her FAFSA as independent. If she is still living with them, then she will file as dependent and will have to include their income. I can only assume that the question has come up because she doesn't live with them...you can email me if you have further information that you feel may alter the answer.

  4. Having car insurance in her parents name has nothing to do with applying for fin aid.  She will be fine.
