I'm getting a female teddy bear hamster, and she has a male short haired hamster. If I go over her house and bring my hamster along to show my friend, can my hamster and her hamster play? NOT IN THE SAME CAGE.. but like she has a hamster play pen we can but them in. Or put them on her bed and watch them. Would they play or fight? Because there not housed together.. there just on the bed or playpen.

  1. I wouldn't allow them to play together, because they will either fight or make babies.

You can put them on the bed and watch them as long as you WATCH them...but that's still a little risky.

  2. if they fight no and you will have to check out if they are boys or girls because a boy and girl you get the rest, but if they fight then no

  3. they won't fight, but make sure that they do not have babies.......keep on eye on them. if you don't want her to have babies, i would recomend that u don't do that.

  4. I wouldn't advise that.  Hamsters if they have reached maturity are highly solitary and territorial.  Even if you put them about a foot away they could smell each other and start nipping at each other.

Hamsters arn't the cute little guys you see on Hamtaro!

  5. Well...they may be okay for a minute or two but I wouldn't suggest it. First of all, female hamsters are almost always in heat meaning she has the possibility of getting pregnant even in a matter of minutes.

Next, hamsters are solitary creatures and as a rule don't like other hamsters except for breeding and then they are separated. Usually only litter mates are kept together and then the males and females are separated after a certain age...usually about 6 weeks. After that the males or females will still get along with each other but only until they get to breeding age. Then they tend to get cranky and want to be alone.

You can always try it and see what happens but be prepared to separate them with something other than your hand. They get a little nippy even without meaning it when they feel threatened.

    Best of luck!

  6. I would recomend not taking your hamster over to your friends house because I got another dwarf hamster not that long ago and I put him on the floor in a fenced area with my other male dwarf hamster they are both males and they were fighting quite vicious so just to for warn you you could try it but break them up as soon as possible if they start to fight

  7. No, it'll take them seconds to mate plus hamsters are solitary animals and if they don't mate, you can bet they are going to tear into each other.

  8. NO

Teddy bear hamsters are syrian hamsters. Syrian hamsters are very solitary and territorial in nature. Introducing them to another hamster can cause vicious fighting and even death.

When introducing them in a new area like a playground, they would not fight instantly since the area is neutral and not marked by scents but once they start marking the area with their scents, then there is a possibility of them fighting.

Females are in heat every 4 days and it is definite they would mate even if left together for some time. This is not right since unless you are a professional breeder, the chances of making a healthy litter is very difficult and complicated. Hence I would advise you not to leave them together for even a couple of minutes.

Best and safest way to make them play together is to put them in separate hamster balls so that there is not chance of them fighting or mating.
