Can my friend study here in the U.S. of he is just staying as a tourist?

my friend is here in the U.S as a tourist but he likes the country so much that he wants to stay to study. he is only 15 years old and he came to stay at my house for only 6 months which is the period they gave him to stay. he wants to study to see how to school is and stuff. can he do that? like what papers does he need to show the school and stuff? he came to the us with out his parents he just came to visit. so can you guys explain everything to me and how that works? i am a resident. would i be his guardian?? how does one become someone's guardian?

  1. You have a 15 year old friend and want to be his guardian? Well, becoming a legal guardian falls under state laws, but even if you were that wouldn't really affect US immigration law.  He wouldn't be eligible for consideration for a student visa until he's in the 9th grade. He could attend public school for a year, but no longer, and he'd have to get an I-20 from the school system and pay them tuition in order to legally attend. He could attend 4 years of private high school, if that school is registered with USCIS to allow it to sponsor foreign students and issue the I-20.
