Can my girlfriend benefit from my insurance if we get married?

Im signed up through mediCal because my mom was on medical when I was born, its like free medical insurance through the state for underprivelaged families, I was wondering, Me and my girlfriend are planning to get married, would she be able to benefit from my insurance?

  1. I think if you get married it could void your insurance with them.  They take the spouse’s income into consideration and you will likely be making too much to receive your free insurance.  So the way I see it… if you get married it will pretty much hurt you financially.

    You should really go to their office and speak will a caseworker before you do anything.  I wouldn’t take any advice from here… it’s too risky when it’s your life involved.  Talking to them face to face would be the correct thing to do in your situation.  I wish you the best of luck and I hope that my instincts were wrong about your insurance.  I hope everything works out for you.  Good luck.


  2. It's welfare health insurance.  

    If you get married, you both have to reapply for welfare health insurance.  Once you're not your mom's dependent any more, you aren't covered.  That will happen when you get old enough, too, usually 19 or 20.  OR when you get married.
