  1. The problem is going to be that since your grandma doesn't have a license, she can't get insurance, which means she can't register the car or get tags. And you can't do any of that either if you are only 16.

  2. Gram does not need a license to buy a car, get a loan, or get insurance.  She needs a license to drive a car.  If you're going to be the primary driver she will have to add you to her insurance policy

  3. You would not be able to afford the car payments and insurance if you are expecting to pay for it yourself.

I don't believe that she needs a licence to purchase the car but she will need to have insurance for the car before you can drive it off the lot and you can't get insurance without a license unless the insurance is in your name only (and with a 16 year old in a Navi, its going to be expensive!)

*A new navi is 44,956, with a great credit rate (lets say 2.5%APR your payments would still be around $767mo. for 60 months.) Unless you are buying used in which case you can get a used 99 Navi for about $4000?

  4. I think she can. Owning a vehicle has nothing to do with driving the vehicle. Two different things, at least here in California. Look at it this way, a Company can own a vehicle, but the Company cannot be issued a drivers license.

A person under the age of 18 cannot own a vehicle, but here is another angle. She can be the legal owner and you can be the co-registered owner. You would need to have insurance in your name and Gandma as the owner.

  5. In today's world I'm not so sure. If she buys the car in her name only then she would have to have proof of full coverage insurance which requires having a lisence, but if she goes to a buy here pay here it maybe possible there, they don't always verify insurance when you drive off the lot. Maybe she can put your name on the loan-she could co-sign for you?

It maybe possible, if she pays in full for the car and no loan is involved....

Make some calls and check around at buy here pay here lots, those would be your best bet I think!!

  6. She can give you the money and you buy the car in your name though.No.  If it's in her name, she also has to be on the insurance policy and that won't happen if she has no license.

  7. Find a nice Corolla and see if she'll buy it for you.

You need to wake up and become a responsible adult if you feel you need to drive.

  8. 16 and you WANT a Lincoln gas sucking you won't keep up the payments Navagator. Why would you want to tie up your Grandma with such a deal that only benefits you. Who is going to pay the insurance, repairs and gas for it. I understand wanting a car but you need to start out with something practical and reasonable. A person doesn't need a license to own a car...just to drive one.
