Can my grandmothers social security be garnished for debt after repossession of her car?

  1. It depends on the state she live in, how much she still owes after the car is sold, how much her SS check is, and how willing she is to work with the bank to repay the amount remaining.

  4. No, no one but the I.R.S. and Social Security itself can touch your Grandmothers Social Security checks.

    If they take her to court and get a judgment they can attach bank accounts (but as long as she can prove that the money is from S.S.I. they can not touch it) and file liens on any property she may own.

    They can not take the property but if she sells it she will have to pay them out of the profits.
