Hi guys. I have five guinea pigs. Ellie- mom- gave birth to three about seven weeks ago. We were told they were 2 boys. It was unexpected so the dad impregnated her again. Just three days ago Ellie gave birth to a little adorable pup. For the last three nights there has been thunder and lightning and they are in a shed outside. Will they be ok or will i bring them inside. My mom wont leave me but im going to have to convince her. Also i think Ellie is getting tired. i think she feeds the baby but sometimes tibbles- baby- just curls up next to her for warmth cos Ellie leaves her in the house on her own. Today Tibbles was trying to feed but ellie shoved her away. Should i hand feed her. The last littler was perfect health. But the biggest one diedafter 3 days. I dont want tibbles to die. PLEASE help me. Thank you all soo much.

  1. I don't know where you are located geographically speaking, but guinea pigs are very sensitive to temperature fluctuations. They are not tolerant of heat at all and can die of heatstroke in as little as 85 degrees fahrenheit, even in the shade. Guinea pigs should be kept in a constant temperature of between 70 and 75 degrees.

What I'm try to get at is that your piggies probably should not be outside in a shed, thundering/lightning or not. I'm sure the thunder and lightning do not help them feel secure.

Back to back pregnancies are terribly hard on a sow's body. The sow becomes fertile again within an hour after giving birth, as you found out. Unless you are feeding her very well and paying close attention to the nutrients in her diet, she probably does not have the stamina or sufficient milk supply to nurse this one baby. If she is rejecting the pup at three days old, you'll need to begin some aggressive diet supplementation. Make SURE your sow & pups are receiving an adequate amount of Vitamin C. Please take a look at this link for diet information:

Males are sexually mature at 3 weeks old (21 days) and females at 4 weeks old (28 days). You need to make sure the daddy pig and any boy pups are separated from the mum and any sister pups or you chance pregnancy AGAIN. If you do not feel like you can s*x them properly, take them to an exotics vet near you & have the vet take a look. Sometimes they won't charge for just sexing the babies. Or you can check out this link & see if you can tell yourself:

  2. i'd say no, because of all the stress its best to put the mother guinea pig and the babies inside, or the mother might be extreamly stressful and kill a baby (i dunno, it might only be with gerbils and hamsters but who knows?). they wont die, the lightning wont kill them, but its more for their emotional health than their physical health. its best to keep them inside, but they could stay outside and live

  3. watch them check the babie is suckiling

    if not bring it inside

type in handrearing baby guinea pigs on search engine i would give you klink but comp wont let me

go to them pet dtore buy kitten milk/best to ask shop worker first

    and a small tuiny bottle
