Can my hamster mr. panda eat plain old worms outside?

it should not harm him but you should not do that you can feed him mealworms.

It wouldn't harm him if he was on the grass and ate them straight out of the ground.  Hamsters are omnivores in the wild and eat insects.  You can buy them live mealworms as a treat.  However do not take earthworms out of the ground yourself as they start releasing a toxin on exiting the earth that is poisonous.  I know this from volunteering at a wildlife rescue centre; this is the reason we don't give worms to the birds, just meal worms from the shop.
