Question:

Can my high school technicians monitor my laptop internet use?

we get laptops in my high school to use throught the year, in the summer the school takes up the laptops and configures all them, "checks" our history, etc. Our principal claims that they remove the hard drive and analyze "everything" that we browsed (alot of people at school have told me that its just B.S)

so I was wondering, if i'm on my own server (at home) and not using the schools wireless connection can the school eventually find out my online history?

Is it true that they can go through the inner disk and reveal my history?

  1. Your history is there from your home connection or school connection - it is the same laptop.  A history is there even if you delete it, it still takes up space on a hard drive.

Yes they can check, but a program may just run, with certain keywords, then throw out a report at the end to the technician/school.

It is very true, even with people leaving a business the management may choose to do a check on that person's PC or laptop when they leave.  It isn't against the law, as long as they tell you a policy that they, the school or business have.  You may have signed or your parents signed an agreement when you got the laptop.

They may do it random or on everyone of them.  You never know for sure.

  2. It depends on how much money your school has dumped into the laptop program. It my HIgh School, they did and they could see whatever you do as long as your hooked up to the internet, whether at your school, home library, where ever. There was actually a funny story, where a freshmen  was at home looking at adult content at the same time the faculty was having a laptop workshop in the theater. And they liked on the kids screen and displayed on every teacher laptop and the huge projection screen was a video of two people going at it. haha Ahhhh.. the price of working in an all boys school.

  3. Run it through a degaussing loop to be extra safe just the hard drive that is.  Or get a decent hard drive wipe program one that writes more than 10 times.

  4. Don't listen to knucklehead up there.  The school owns the laptops, so they can check them whenever they want.  It is not an invasion of privacy and is not illegal.  And yes, they can find out everything you have been doing on the computer, even if you used it at home.  You can even lose your privileges if you abuse them.

  5. Your high school can monitor your history when you are connected to their Network. But they can also see what other things you've been on if you do not delete your internet files. My school does not allow its students to delete their own history/internet files, your probably won't either. However what i do is: Download Mozilla Firefox 3, add an add-on called hide-bad (or something like that). Then when u push Alt X it will automatically wipe ur history and stuff, that what i do when i want to play games at school.

Remember on a computer once you delete stuff it stays deleted

  6. It is true that they can check anything that has been on the laptop, regardless of connection you are using.

  7. yes they can

  8. no they cant...

  9. Yes it is, but you can make it more difficult for them by deleting your history from the browser.

If you're using firefox you do this by clicking on the "Tools" drop-down at the top and selecting "Clear privacy data"

With Internet explorer click on tools, select 'internet options' and delete all of your cookies and history.

  10. no they cant that's call spying they cant do that it so hard for them to do it for each student they have and it take time and if they some how did it u should sue them
