I've just been diagnosed with an upper respiratory tract infection (on top of mono/glandular fever), yay for 2am emergency calls for ambulance.....anywho another story there......I was going to go out and see my horse, just give her a pat or whatever but one of my friends said that she can catch what I have...is this true because if it is I don't want her to catch anything as she just got over thrombosis. enlighten me possible medical/disease specialists people of the horse category.

  1. I have never heard of a horse catching anything from a person - however with the kind of luck you seem to be having I think it is probably safest if you steer clear of her.

With your luck if she didn't catch it you would fall on the way back and break your leg or something. I think the safest place for you is in bed watching DVDs.

  2. I think your horse might catch it !!! Im sorry 2 say but u dont want your horse sick!!!!!

But i hope u get better and can ride your horse plus are feeling better!!!! GET WELL SOON!!!!!

  3. No your horse can't catch your bug. And better still patting your horse will brighten your spirits no end.

I dearly hope you feel better soon and that you are  not out of the saddle too long.

  4. Well, don't be doing any lip kissing...spit sharing...and might I add...EWWWWW!

My horses have never caught anything I have had.  But I don't know for sure 100% about that.  I've never caught anything from them either!  Guess I will go google now...

**EDIT...well, I could give them rabies...if I had it and I bit them.  I would hope my family would put me the hospital instead of the barn.  *remembering Old Yeller*

I don't know that I would even want to be outside!  So much easier to play the sick martyr while you're on the couch!  Hope you get to feeling better soon!

  5. Wow, you are just getting the sh&t kicked out of you by this mono thing. So now its Bronchitis's.....Yuk  Now heres a question that I have no clue how to answer, my sister is a D.V.M. and I have never been told not to be around our horses when I had a cold but I could be totally wrong. I guess my best advice would be that you are sooo sick and your immune systems is so weak that it just might not be a great idea, even though i know how special just a pat and a hug from your horse means when you feel like sh&t. Maybe there are some qualified people to help you with this question, just wanted to say hope you get better soon, take care

  6. Glad to hear you are ok. I think your friend may be right though...animals can catch human illnesses but we can't catch animal illnesses.

Best advice I can give you is to rest and get better and let someone else give your horse some attention while you get your health back.

    Feel better soon!
