Can my husband claim me as a dependent?

If I didnt work at all in the year and I went to school for more than half the year can my husband claim me as a dependent? Im 21 and he's 22 and we have a 2 year old if that matters at all.. Thanx

  1. No spouses are not dependents. You get an exemption for each person in your family.  


  2. NO!  A spouse can never claim the other spouse as a dependent.

    However, you can file jointly and still get the same deductions (better actually). But, this will make you just as responsible  for any tax liability.

    Hope this helps.

  3. If the 2 of you file together, you are eligible for EIC (due to baby).

    If your hubby files by himself, he can claim your exemption (due to no income), the baby as a dependent, the child tax credit, but no EIC and higher tax brackets.
