Can my jumbo nail clipper break my nails?

I bought this jumbo nail clipper that would be able to cut across the width of my nails in one clip, but my mom told me that could break my nails. I'm not sure if she just means break it anywhere or the length of it. Can it break my nails?

The process of cutting the nails can leave small fractures in the nail, leaving the nail susceptible for breaking later.  The bigger the nail clipper, the greater the number of fractures.
