Can my landlord kick me out for my boyfriend spending the night?

So my boyfriend spent the night last night and today I get a phone call saying that I am not allowed to have guests (a fact that is not mentioned in the lease) and that I have now broken the lease and have a month to move out. When I tell her that it does not say no guests in the lease, she starts saying that she has been informed that I have not been keeping the place clean enough (cause the dishes haven't been done in two days due to a cut on my hand, and my roommate never does them) and that she can kick me out for that. Since I had done most of the dishes already I told her this, and she said that she got some complaints from my roommate that I am making him uncomfortable. My response was that he should bring that to my attention not hers. She then informed me that she is getting complaints from the neighbors about some boxes that are piled up next to the house (most of which are hers and some are my roommates, while granted some are mine) I am getting kicked out but not my roomate

  1. You can not prevent her from forcing you out so that she can renovate her property.    A giant hole in the floor is a serious problem, ESPECIALLY with a 11 month old child around.

I would think you would get out for your child's sake, this is really unsafe.

None of this other stuff matters, you can not stay there if she is renovating or tearing it down.

You found this place, you will find another.

  2. That's ridiculous!!!!  If it's not posted in the lobby/hall or on the lease, he's allowed, and the dishes are none of her business...... How is she seeing them anyway? Don't let her intimidate you.  Tenants have rights and I would check out the "Tenant rights" for where you live.  I'd get your boxes out of there, but don't take her c**p.......

  3. If I were you I would get some free legal advice. If you are paying the rent it sounds to me that she is being petty and high and mighty in the morals department. If it were me I would not leave and I would wait to be evicted. If she evicts, challenge her in court and make her pay your moving expenses (how can she know you are not doing dishes unless she has entered the premises which I do not believe she can do unless it is an emergency)

  4. Here's what you do. Find a lawyer who will write a letter to your landlord saying that she must stop harassing you or legal action will be taken.

  5. I would get some free legal advice...First of all you know the landlord is SNOOPING...AND THAT IS WRONG....she is a nosy nellie!!! I would want to move and report her to the BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU!! I feel when she said other people were complaining she MADE IT UP...GET FREE LEGAL ADVICE..they should be able to help!!!
