Question:

Can my landlord monitor my Internet use?

I'm on a high speed LAN, there are a bunch of other people in the house, my landlord pays the bill. I'm just wondering if there's any way they can snoop on what I'm doing? Are they reading this right now (haha)?

(Bonus Question): Will they be able to track the specific amount of bandwidth I use? I just got Skype and I'm wondering.

  1. no ur landlord can't moniter what ur doing

ur internet is moniterd by ur internet service providers and its urs to do what u wish

  2. if theyve bothered installing the right kind of equipment between you and the router, then yeah they could measure bandwidth and data use, but unless they hack into your system and read your web history then they cant find out what youve been doing on the internet, although it would be possible i suppose for them t otrace what IP addresses youd connected to, they would then know what servers youd been connected to, but i think this is a bit more effort than anyone would go to

  3. If they did it's an invasion of your privacy.

They would have to use illegal/questionable means to look at what you are doing and odds are they are some old farts not some 20 something megahackers.

  4. Without knowing the specifics of your setup then its hard to say for sure but its definitely possible to monitor usage and website tracking if the proper hardware is installed on the LAN. This only requires a router with these built in capabilities.

  5. If they're paying the bill then they're responsible for the use of it, They can view bandwidth because some ISP's allow you through the online bill payment etc. ( If it is )

But there is no way they are snooping, ISP's don't record what sites you go to and they would have to install a tracker on your computer. Lol
