  1. You can probably use a set of powered computer speakers.  I did for a while till I built my system.  I had a 5.1 set of altec lansings I got for 100 bucks sounded pretty good for movies.

  2. most new tv' donot have the ability to directly power speakers.

either hook it up to  your stero system (audio out from the tv to an input on the stereo) or if you need something simplier even computer speakers like Logitech have 2 speakers and a subwoofer - all you woudl need is a stereo RCA male  to stereo 1/8" female to connect the logitechs to

  3. This depends on your LCD TV.

My old TV did have a set of RCA-outputs for stereo speakers, and could use my TV's amplifier, or not.  This meant I could have connected a pair of unpowered speakers, and let the TV use its amplifier, or plug the TV into a receiver, and let the receiver use its amplifier for its speakers.

Your TV's manual should have information about this if it's supported.

I know that my LCD TV doesn't have the RCA outputs, so I can't use a pair of speakers by themselves.  However, it does have an optical audio output, which means I can connect my TV to a surround sound receiver.  This is useful since I can then connect things to my TV using a HDMI cable for both sound and audio - and the audio can then be passed to the receiver.  This makes wiring a bit easier to manage, while still allowing me to use surround sound.

    Again, check your manual.

  4. Not directly.

You may want to look at both self powered speakers and the more desirable receiver and speakers set up.
