  1. Yes, your mum can definitely homeschool you here in Australia. Home schooling is legal in all States and Territories - central planks of the Commonwealth's 1990 Education Act are "to allow children to be educated at home" and "to give primary responsibility for the education of children to their parents". In fact, here, the States have been supporting homeschooling families ever since they started making correspondence lessons available to them (now cyber schools) in approximately 1900/1901.

In Australia, home education is regulated by the individual States just like in the US. However, down here, requirements are minimal and where do they exist, very general in nature. Basically homeschoolers and the State co-exist peacefully and the overwhelming attitude from the "powers-that-be" tends to be: As long as you don't bother us, we won't bother you.

Whatever your style of home education, you and your mum will have no problems fitting your own education philosophy into the Australian requirements. Basically the requirements say your mum must have some educational objectives for you and the resources to ensure that these objectives are carried out. The Aussie system does not define what those "educational objectives" have to be though so you can pretty much put anything in there as your objectives, lol!

As for graduating high school in Australia, we don't have a system based on "credits" in the way the US does. In Australia, you do the HSC (Higher Schools Certificate) or its local equivalent - this is a series of exams taken at the end of year 12...in October/November of year 12 as in Australia the school year starts in February (not September) and ends in December (not June or whenever you're used to in the US).

Two random thoughts for you though: don't know why you decided to homeschool in the first place but, if it was a decision based on the quality of local schools, Australia has some excellent schools in both the public and private sector. Apparently we're rated in the top 3 education systems in the world whereas the US is something like 97th (or thereabouts!). Our high schools are more akin to colleges in the US (so I was told!)...and things like school shootings etc are unheard of in our schools. So why don't I go to school? Because I live in the middle of nowhere basically, lol!

Secondly, how old are you? The school leaving age in Australia is 15 (it goes from 6 yrs old to 15 yrs old here) so if you're 15 or over, you're already outside of the "compulsory education" rules and so you and your mum are free to do whatever you want with your education and homeschooling anyway.

  2. There is info on this page:  http://www.hslda.org/hs/international/Au...  I believe it all depends on which state/territory you live in.

There are also some Australian homeschoolers on here (Hannah M is a good source of info) that can give you more specific information.

  3. Go to your embassy they could help you.

  4. idk but i wanna be home skool 2
