Hi. I share a wireless network with my neighbor (he's ok with it, he was actually the one who offered to let me use it). But what I'm wondering is can he see what I'm doing on my computer? I know we can share files and things like that, but can he see what websites I visit and like, questions I ask here?? He's really good with computers (and I'm not, obviously lol). He's actually a programmer or something for American Greetings. Thanks for any info.

  1. Yes.  There is a high probability that if he is good with computers and you are sharing files from each others computers that he has allot more access into your computer than you would like to believe.

I would definitely urge you to change this arrangement and get a non-wireless (wired) network of your own.

Unless you trust him 100%, you are almost making it too easy for him.

  2. Yes and no. He cannot pick up wireless keyboard keystrokes, because bluetooth is encrypted, and it only works within 30 feet, if you're really lucky. He would only be able to see what you are logging on to online if he is intercepting your internet communications. Now, if you're friends, I doubt that he would do this anyway, but there are many fields of programming, and whatever he does for American Greetings I doubt relates to TCP/IP and DHCP (networking protocol), and you need to be really good do that anyway. Also wireless networking is encrypted, unless it's shut off but I doubt that because he's so smart, but he would have to have hacked into his wireless router, which has proprietary software. It's very very very very unlikely.

  3. yes he can. there is remote access which goes both way. He can also pick up your wireless keystrokes on your wireless keyboard if you have one. If he is a hacker then all this is very very easy.

  4. his router will keep a log of sites visited, but as long as he is using encryption he can not see anything else you enter. If it is not encrypted ALL your transactions become public to anybody with a wireless machine. This means all your clear text passwords, user names and emails. Also be cautious publicly mentioning this, unless he has a commercial broadband account with express permission in writing allowing sharing outside his own household, his ISP would consider this stealing. Several have prosecuted for this, none have lost a case.
