I have a aiwa hi fi system 15 years old holds 3 c ds, it wont pick up any c ds, i have used cleaning c ds prior to this to keep laser clean.

I dont want to part with it, it has a turn turntable, i like the sound quality. is it repairable?.

  1. it is repairable but if you never done any electronics work you will probably mess it up, and taking it to a repairer would cost a bit. The cd pick up on Awia equipment is quite cheap, around £15 to £25 and you can get it from Grandata electronics (you would have to remove the old one first to see the reference).

sometimes you can get them to work by tweaking the potentiometer on the rear of the cd pick up

  2. Look at it this way - if you sold it, fully working, you might get about £5 - £10 for it.

To get it repaired will cost you around £50 - £75.

Do you want to spend 5 or 6 times its value to get it repaired, when you could by a brand new system, with far better sound quality?

  3. You might just want to get a cheap CD player if it has some type of external input.  It probably would cost more than it is worth to fix it.
