Can my partner claim tax credits? Please help!!!!

I was recently told that I could claim Income support because I'm in full time education at college, still live at home and I'm pregnant. I've later found out that If I claim income support my boyfriend would have to pay CSA.

I don't live with my boyfriend as he's in the army 200 miles away!

Would he be able to claim working tax credits or child tax credits?

Please if someone knows if he could claim this and if not if there is anything he can claim? As the website doesn't really tell you much

Thanks

  1. You will be able to apply for child tax credits once the baby is born.

You can't have it both ways, either he is the child's father and supports the child or he's not.

Just because he is 200 miles away does not relieve him of responsibility.

Edit - by your question you implied that you would be claiming IS.If not claiming then no need for CSA to be involved unless father refusing to pay.I think you would need to live together for him to be able to claim WTC but phone them and ask.

  2. The working partner can claim tax credits if you live together but it has to be paid to the person who is the main carer of the child so at the moment, as you do not live together then he cannot claim and if you continue to claim jobseeker or income support then he will have to pay through the csa.

  3. If you and your boyfriend are a couple, and he stays with you when on leave then you are not classed as a single parent, you are part of a couple whose partner is in the army. He will have to support you if this is the case and yes depending upon his income he can claim Tax Credits

If you are not a couple then he can't claim Tax Credits as he is no responsible for the child. You would claim Tax Credits and Income Support. The CSA will seek to recover this money from his wage
