  1. Yessireebob!  Sea monkeys ARE Brine Shrimp, only marketed as pets instead of fish food.  A five gallon aquarium makes a great home for brineshrimp.  Metal containers and salt water do not mix.  In the wild brine shrimp (sea monkeys) are often found at a salinity (or concentration of salt in a given volume of water) that is almost twice as high as that of the ocean!  If you are looking for a large sea monkey village, I reccomend placing an aragonite(available at most pet stores) sand in the bottom of your aquarium.  This will help buffer the pH levels of the water and make your brine monkeys happy.  When culturing them for fish food, I use a comercially prepared salt mixture (I think instant ocean is the brand, but can't remember).  I follow the direction on the package for mixture, but I use 1.5 times the amount of salt mixture as directed.  I also use reverse osmosis de-ionized water from the grocery store to mix the saltwater because brine shrimp/seamonkeys are invertibrates and all invertibrates are quite sensative to metals usually found in municipal water or even in your copper pipes.  I feed my shrimp a few drops of DT's live phyto plankton quite frequently every day.  Be carefull not to overfeed your shrimp as it is the worst enemy of sea monkeys!  When all of the shrimp have died (they don't have a long lifespan) an I can not see any baby brine shrimp (called naupali) doing their hurkey jurkey attempt at swimming, I carefully siphon most of the water out of the aquarium.  Allow all of the water to evaporate from the aquarium leaving the sand completley dry.  Stick it in a closet or a cool dry dark place for about a month and forget about it.  After the month, refill the aquarium with fresh salt water and add about a teaspoon of baking soda to the water.  Within three days you will notice a whole new generation of seamonkeys swimming about.  The saga continues!  :)
