NO! I was a former soccer player and used to play rugby. Well i thought i could use them. WRONG!!! I stepped on someone breaking their toe and had to pay their medical bill. Take my advice buy him some 60 dollar Nike's. Better than paying hundreds of dollars

Are they s***w in studs?If not as long as they have no sharp edges they would be fine.

If they are s***w ins, then no.For some reason the refs don't like them.

no for these reasons

1) if hard toe then will kick the ball ridiculously inaccurately

2) rugby boots are usually heavier and havnt got as sensitive touch

3)studs AND actual boots much lighter and more agile in football

rugby boots have a stronger grip to them than soccer boots.  Therefore, the studs on the rugby boots are also harder and more dangerous on a soccer pitch.  I would recommend buying soccer boots, but just tell him to be careful if he uses the rugby ones.

k ..so i just googled the images of  soccer cleats and rugby boots, and they look the same.

although ....they might be designed differently and work differently

It depends on the type of boot. It all depends on the studs, everything else about soccer and rugby boots are pretty much the same.

NO:

If they have metal studs or s***w in studs.

YES:

If they do not have metal studs or s***w in studs.

Basically YES, he can.

As long as they don't have a reinforced toe unless deemed ok by the referee, it should be fine.

Rugby Studs are much more rounded and well weight distributed than those of the standard football boot which means they are much less dangerous than football boots hence the allowance for rugby players to legally stamp on illegally placed players at the back of a ruck and without piercing of the skin.

do they have toe cleats, is so no he cant but it's really up to the ref of the game, i've worn hiking boots to a soccer game and was still aloud to play.
